Fourth-grade math students have been learning to add and subtract decimals. To make the lesson more engaging, teachers organized a fun “Casa Olé Day.” Students enjoyed queso and salsa while using a restaurant-style menu to solve real-world word problems involving decimals.

In 5th grade science, students worked collaboratively to design and build small boats using only sheets of aluminum foil. Their challenge was to create a ship that could float and hold as many small weights (marbles) as possible without sinking. As they tested their boats, students observed how the shape and surface area affected the distribution of mass, connecting their designs to the scientific concepts of density and buoyant forces. Through trial and error, they refined their designs, discovering that spreading the mass over a larger area helps reduce density and increase buoyancy. This hands-on investigation encouraged critical thinking, problem-solving, and the application of scientific principles in a fun and engaging way.

During PE this week, students in grades 2–5 participated in a fun and active series of stations focused on improving mobility and agility. In addition to these skill-building activities, students were taught the fundamentals of throwing and catching a football.
To wrap up the lesson and assess their understanding of proper throwing technique, we held a Football Throw Challenge! Each student had one chance to throw a football as far as they could, applying what they learned during instruction. We measured each throw and celebrated the top performers.
The top 3 boys and top 3 girls in each grade earned a spot on our PE Bulletin Board of Fame outside the gym and received a football keychain for their backpack as a prize.
We were proud to see all students giving their best effort, demonstrating not only improved technique but also great sportsmanship. Way to go, everyone!

Yesterday , our fifth graders wore red bandanas in honor of Welles Crowther, whose courage and selflessness became a symbol of hope on 9/11. Welles, a volunteer and honorary firefighter, is remembered as the “Man in the Red Bandana” for his heroic actions in the South Tower of the World Trade Center. With calm determination and compassion, he covered his face with his red bandana and repeatedly guided survivors to safety, making multiple trips back into the wreckage and ultimately saving many lives. Students learned about his story while watching his and other documentaries on the events of September 11, 2001.

3rd-grade science students had a fun, hands-on lesson all about matter! They’ve been learning that matter is anything that takes up space and has mass—and that it comes in three main states: solid, liquid, and gas.
To explore these states, the students did a simple but exciting experiment using vinegar, baking soda, and balloons.

Mrs. Mendoza, Ms. King, and Mrs. Abshire’s 5th Grade classes participated in a paper chain challenge. Each group got one sheet of paper, scissors, and tape to work together and create the longest paper chain possible. It was all about communication, creativity, and teamwork!
