Last Friday, fifth-grade students continued our annual tradition of learning about the legacy of Welles Remy Crowther. Known as "The Man in the Red Bandanna", Welles led at least 10 documented survivors to safety during the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Centers. Although Welles did not survive, his family says they honor his decision to continue to climb back up the towers to help save others. After watching the documentary, our fifth-grade Bobcats all received red bandannas in remembrance of the attacks that day and in honor of Welles.

Last Friday, our 4th grade mathematicians put their decimal skills to work with a fun Mexican restaurant-themed math activity! Students used a menu to solve real-world problems involving adding and subtracting decimals. They calculated totals, figured out change, and practiced explaining their mathematical thinking.
To make the experience even more fun, students pretended they were dining at a Mexican restaurant while enjoying chips and salsa served by their teacher! 🥑🌶️
It was a fun and delicious way to practice an important math skill! Who knew adding and subtracting decimals could be so tasty?

Second grade students wrapped up their unit on matter by enjoying root beer floats! They observed the solid ice cream mixed with the liquid root beer produce bubbly foam (gas). They also learned that the ice cream melting is a reversible physical change because it can be frozen back into ice cream. The students enjoyed this yummy treat to end their matter unit!

OHS was excited to once again be able to host today’s TACRAO College Fair, giving our Bobcats a front-row seat to college and career options after graduation. Representatives from 21 technical institutes, colleges and universities were on campus to share insights on admissions, campus life, certifications, degree programs, and financial aid.
Best of all, every single student had the opportunity to attend, connect with recruiters, and start mapping out their goals!
A huge thank you to the visiting representatives and our counseling department for organizing a fantastic event for our students.
