Community Spotlight: JT Prejean Inspires the Next Generation

This past Saturday, local community leader Mr. JT Prejean devoted his time and expertise to the welding students at Orangefield High School. Students had the unique opportunity to learn new skills on the TIG welder, gaining hands-on experience from a true professional.

Mr. Prejean’s dedication not only strengthens the students’ technical abilities but also inspires them to pursue excellence in their craft. Thank you, Mr. Prejean, for investing in our future leaders.

Orangefield High School FCCLA teamed up with Interact for a joint community service project. They spent the first Thursday of December volunteering. They started the morning at the annual Granger Food Drive, loading and unloading cans to stock the pantries at The Salvation Army and Orange Christian Services. After spending the morning at Granger Chevrolet, they moved over to The Salvation Army and unloaded and sorted all of the donations. From there they went on into LCM to donate the new, unwrapped toys they had collected for the 69th Annual Orange Service League Toy Coffee. Thank you to all that assisted and donated!

Orangefield High School students had an exciting and eye-opening experience at the Junior Achievement Finance Park program. This interactive, real world financial education initiative helps high school students build essential money management skills through both classroom learning and a hands-on budgeting simulation.

During the simulation, students were assigned a career, income level, family scenario, and monthly expenses. They were then challenged to create and balance a realistic budget while making real life financial decisions related to housing, transportation, groceries, education, childcare, healthcare, and savings. Students navigated various stages of life, from their teenage years through young adulthood, working adulthood, and nearing retirement. Many quickly discovered how easy it is to underestimate expenses and how fast a paycheck can be spent.

The Orangefield High School Senior students would like to thank Mrs. Jennifer Womack from Junior Achievement for sponsoring Finance Park and to the local businesses that supported our students throughout this valuable learning experience: Stellar Bank, Capital One Bank, and Entergy. Your partnership helps prepare us for a successful financial future.
