
OHS students in the Child Development and Patient Care Technician courses traveled to LSCO for some hands-on learning. Students were able to participate in the simulation of a delivery and infant care after birth, as well as pediatric and adult simulation scenarios. The students greatly enjoyed the opportunity to put some of their classroom learning to the test. Thank you to the LSCO Nursing Department for welcoming us and investing in our students!

Abby Slaughter, Ethan Welch, and Gracie Bickham attended the Youth Leadership Southeast Texas Conference today at LIT. Several surrounding school districts along with community leaders spent their day discussing how to best serve our community and what it means to serve others. They were paired with students from Bridge City and will collectively work on a service project over the course of the school year.



Congratulations to Orangefield High School congressional debaters for placing at the UIL Region Meet on November 8, 2023. Sidney Holderman-2nd place; Calvin Kelly-3rd place; Major Copeland-4th place; Colton Myers-5th place; and Cooper Dorman-8th place. The contestants debated various student-created pieces of legislation for 6 hours. Alternates were Kimber Carpenter, Adam Myers, Aiden Taylor, and Emmanuel Zepeda. Holderman and Kelly will advance to the UIL State 3A Congressional Debate Contest at UT-Austin held in January 2024 and Copeland and C. Myers will attend as alternates. The legislation authored by Copeland will be debated at the state meet: "A bill to cease funding Ukraine to focus on issues at home." The OHS Debate Sponsor is Bridget Luna Trahan.

OHS Health Science students would like to extend a big thank you to Tower Medical for sponsoring our new student organization, HOSA - Future Health Professionals. This organization enables students the opportunity to advance knowledge and skills of the healthcare industry, promote career opportunities, and enhance delivery of quality healthcare. Mr. Humphrey and Mr. Garcia, Nurse Practitioners from Tower Medical, made an appearance at today's HOSA meeting so students could thank them personally for their sponsorship of our t-shirts.

On Saturday, November 4, members of the OHS Speech/Debate team competed in the Pine Tree High School Walk the Plank UIL Invitational Meet in Longview, TX.
The students enjoyed lunch in Lufkin, dinner in Longview, and a spectacular display of Christmas lights at Carmela’s Magical Santaland.


Orangefield High School student, Lela Francis, placed 5th in Prose at the Longview UIL Invitational Meet. Her sponsor is Steven Gonzales.


Football Bi-District Playoff Information


On Wednesday, Health Science seniors were able to take a field trip to Baptist Hospital Beaumont. Patient Care Technician students got a behind the scenes look at several units within the hospital including Behavioral Health, L&D and Mother/Baby, Day Surgery and the Cath Lab. In addition, they also toured the Acadian Texas Ambus that can be used during evacuations and mass casualty events. Pharmacy students were able to shadow a CPhT to see the order entry, filling and dispensing process that occurs in the hospital setting. OHS would like to thank Baptist Hospital for investing in our students' futures!

On Saturday, October 28, seven members of the Orangefield High School Debate team attended Nederland High School's Annual Fright Night Invitational Meet. The students were divided into three chambers to compete in UIL Congressional Debate for six hours. Congratulations to Major Copeland for placing 5th in Chamber B and 3rd in the costume contest; Sidney Holderman for placing 2nd in Chamber A; and Calvin Kelly for placing 2nd in the costume contest. Other debaters include: Colton Myers, Adam Myers, Cooper Dorman, and Aiden Taylor. The team is coached by Bridget Trahan.

This past Saturday, our Bobcat Pride Marching band participated in the UIL Area C Marching Contest At Stephen F. Austin University. They placed 6th in the Preliminary round and earned a spot to perform in Finals. Their Finals performance earned them 6th place again, the alternate from Area C to the State Marching contest.
