OHS Health Science students would like to extend a big thank you to Tower Medical for sponsoring our new student organization, HOSA - Future Health Professionals. This organization enables students the opportunity to advance knowledge and skills of the healthcare industry, promote career opportunities, and enhance delivery of quality healthcare. Mr. Humphrey and Mr. Garcia, Nurse Practitioners from Tower Medical, made an appearance at today's HOSA meeting so students could thank them personally for their sponsorship of our t-shirts.

Congratulations to these students for passing the Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) Word Associate exam. These students are members of Mrs. Bellard's Business Information Management class.

On Wednesday, Health Science seniors were able to take a field trip to Baptist Hospital Beaumont. Patient Care Technician students got a behind the scenes look at several units within the hospital including Behavioral Health, L&D and Mother/Baby, Day Surgery and the Cath Lab. In addition, they also toured the Acadian Texas Ambus that can be used during evacuations and mass casualty events. Pharmacy students were able to shadow a CPhT to see the order entry, filling and dispensing process that occurs in the hospital setting. OHS would like to thank Baptist Hospital for investing in our students' futures!

Last week, students in Health Science Theory did research on a chosen medical condition or procedure, then creatively displayed them using pumpkins. It may be safe to say that pumpkin-ology is their new favorite medical specialty area! Teachers and staff at OHS voted and it was a close race. We would like to congratulate Sophia Marino and Rilei Hass for "Best Overall", with their Cesarean Section pumpkins. Ella Welch, Kaitlynn Sullivan, and Larymie Thompson took the award for "Most Creative", displaying a patient with a Myocardial Infarction undergoing open heart surgery. Then "Most Disgusting" goes to Elyse Gunter and Mina Webb with Hematemesis. The pumpkins were obtained from the Orangetoberfest pumpkin scramble, so we would also like to extend a thank you to the city of Orange for the donation.
