Mrs. Wilmore's 7th grade art classes made a comeback cooler to send to Florida after the landfall of Hurricane Helene. Students wanted to show their appreciation and support for those who have been in the path of a natural disaster. With the help of Tamina Hogg (the owner of Apple Tree) these coolers will be delivered to Florida.
A comeback cooler is designed with vibrant colors and meaningful symbols to represent hope, resilience and community spirit. They are then delivered to hurricane victims, military, linemen and other groups involved.

Last night, the fighting Bobcats looked to build off of their success from last week. They had their district opener against the Hardin Hornets with both teams earning very convincing wins.
The 7th graders started off on defense and ended up scoring on a very interesting punt return by Landon Agerton from about 14 yards out. The defense continued their domination all night as they shut out the Hornets 34-0. Agerton continued his scoring on the other side of the ball as well as he scored from way out two different times putting the game out of hand before it really even began. Larsen Richard flashed some speed as he dodged, ducked, dipped, dived, and dodged his way to the endzone. Porter Oldham and Traeson Addison wanted in on some of the action so they connected on a touchdown pass and catch for one of the Bobcats final touchdowns on the night. This was a big team win as people cycled in early and often for a big Orangefield win to open up district play.
The 8th graders started off a little sluggish as the offense sputtered until finally gaining traction. Kaysen Click scored on defense early by ripping the ball loose and taking it to the house for about 90 yards. Dean Bernal forced a fumble on a big hit that was recovered by Keaton Leonard giving the offense more chances to try and right the ship. Click and his troops eventually figured it out, putting up some points and beating the Hornets 42-14. Click connected with Major Butler on a touchdown pass then ran for 2 more touchdowns adding to his scoring totals for the year. Lawrence Steiner did what Lawrence Steiner does and took 2 around the edge for scores as no one was even close to matching his speed. Andrew Burt also punched in a 2 point conversion on a punishing run through the middle. Defensively it was a team effort with big hits all around from Chasen Yates, Bernal, Click, Leonard, Butler, and a near pick from Easton Locke.
All of these teams have big matchups next week against Anahuac as the Cats take the show on the road Thursday and the B team is on the road Tuesday against St. Anne's in Kelly.

Orangefield Junior High Student Council and NJHS went to Orangetober Festival yesterday to help set up pumpkin displays for the City of Orange. Before working, the students were greeted by Mayor Larry Spears, who spoke with them about the importance of the community and volunteer work. The students spent 1.5 hours decorating the displays for the festival.

Last week, Mrs. Castillo's 8th grade Principles of Ag class worked on constructing a mega mum. Using teamwork, communication, and different elements of floral design, the 8th graders constructed a homecoming mum as big as our school spirit.
The mega mum is 17 feet tall, required 1,200 individually-placed coffee filters to create the 'flower', and took 90 kids 4.5 days to complete.
Thank you to everyone who had a hand in creating our mega mum and happy homecoming week, Bobcats!

Next district game is tonight, at home! 7B starts at 4:30- with 7A and 8A to follow.

Last Thursday, the junior high had their home opener against the Hamshire Fannett Longhorns. It was a long night of football as all three games came down to the wire.
Local golf pro Remington Connell decided to put his football hat on for the night and call a little offense for our combined B team. He worked his magic allowing Rhys Fenner and Bolt Garner to each score a touchdown on the night. Logan Merriman had the keys to the offense leading his troops at quarterback up and down the field. Garner also converted a 2 point on a bulldozing run up the middle. Dominic Vincent had a huge interception late in the game to keep the Cats within striking distance. Laiten Lytle, Garner, and Fenner also had great games on defense making tackles left and right but coming up just short on a jet pass play in the closing minutes of the game to lose 16-14.
The 7th grade A team had to follow up that nail biter to try and get a win for the Bobcats. Landon Agerton toted the rock early and often in this one scoring on two long runs and having a few more called back because of penalties. Porter Oldham looked great at quarterback throwing for three touchdowns. He connected with Lexon Detwiler, Traeson Addison, and Channing Harrison picking apart the Longhorn defense. He also connected with Addison on a fade in the endzone for a two point conversion. Larsen Richard chipped in a two point conversion late in the game leading to a 28-22 victory. Valen Vacek also lowered his head running through his would-be tacklers picking up huge chunks of yards. Graham Atkins took control of the defense leading the way in tackles and making sure his troops were lined up correctly. Ainsley Skibo, Richard, and Vacek were all cornerstones on this side of the ball as well, containing the edge and making tough tackles on a shifty running back.
The 8th graders were the last to take the field but definitely still one of the best games of the night. Kaysen Click stole the show scoring three touchdowns and converting two of the 2 point conversions while racking up 142 on the ground. Click also connected with Kolston Robinson for a two point conversion. Mark Golemon stepped up in a big way playing a position he has never been in before and performed amazingly handling the center duties like he has been doing it for years. The defense had one of the bend but don't break nights as they kept the Longhorns corralled until the very end with Major Butler picking off a pass in the closing minutes. Lawrence Steiner, Kaleb Flory and Easton Locke all had great nights defensively making play after play while being exhausted and banged up. The Bobcats came out on top 26-22 looking to go into district with some momentum.
Next up for the Bobcats is a homecoming matchup with the Hardin Hornets on Thursday. There will only be two games this week starting at 5:00pm.
