Congratulations to all senior Patient Care Technician (PCT) students on passing their certification exam. The PCT’s role is to be the hands and feet of the patient and the eyes and ears of the nurse. This role takes compassion, patience, hard work, and dedication. These students have proven they have these skills and more, which will enable them to contribute to the overall health and well being of their patients. The future of healthcare is bright! Great job Mrs. Van Huis and your students.

OHS FCCLA members ended their year with a field trip to Lamar University Beaumont. Members checked in at the LU Welcome Center and were escorted around the entire campus. The college did an overview of the programs and degree plans offered and gave a tour of the buildings. The students enjoyed their visit and would like to sincerely thank Lamar University's faculty & staff for their generosity.

Patient Care Technician (PCT) students from the Health Science program at OHS recently completed their eight-week clinical rotation at Baptist Hospitals of Southeast Texas. This experience allows students to utilize classroom skills and knowledge in real-world healthcare situations. Students were able to assist with activities of daily living and monitoring of vital signs, as well as observe numerous surgical procedures, newborn deliveries, and electrocardiogram and imaging studies. In addition, students were also able to practice communication skills with patients, families and other healthcare professionals, all while maintaining confidentiality and patient privacy. These are invaluable skills and experiences that cannot be obtained within the four walls of the classroom. We would like to thank Baptist Hospital for welcoming our students back this year and allowing them to share in their mission of providing sacred work. These students will be testing in May with an opportunity to graduate as a Certified PCT, and will be one step closer to reaching their future career goals in the healthcare profession.
